Description
When the Central Electricity Board of the island nation Mauritius decided to commence the development of the phase two extension of the Pointe Monnier Power Station on the island of Rodrigues in the heart of the Indian Ocean, a natural choice of Turnkey contractor was the Danish engineering company Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC), who had also delivered the previous phase I.
The Phase II extension of the existing power plant has a value of EUR 9m and involves civil works, buildings and common equipment, with an optional price for a second generating unit and auxiliary equipment. Aqvila are to supply the design-supply turnkey contract for the civil works.
The harsh coastal climate in a hurricane area and the complications of designing an extension to an existing and functioning plant necessitated creative problem solving and thorough coordination of the various design disciplines.
In the supply phase, the challenge of getting supplies to a remote site were met by the dedicated focus on all components of the supply from our project manager and international supply partners in Finland, China, Slovenia and Denmark.
