Supply
Design of reinforced concrete, primary steel structures (excluding Boiler House), secondary steel structures and cladding envelope according to European codes. Aqvila’s scope also includes design of building services and architectural finishing works.

Supply of structural steel for the Turbine Building and Fuel Storage Building “penthouse”. Supply of secondary steel and cladding envelope for the Main Building and various minor buildings. Supply of steel doors, laminate doors, windows, regular roller shutters and fire-rated roller.

Description
Danish engineering company Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) was in autumn 2014 awarded a contract to build a combined heat (7.8 MWth) and power (20.2 MWe) turnkey biomass (waste wood) power plant in Widnes, England. Aqvila subsequently won the design & supply sub-contract for the civil and building works.

The power plant is located on a green field site located adjacent to the Mersey river between Liverpool and Manchester.

The power plant consists of a Main Building (divided in a service building, a boiler building, a turbine building and a fuel storage building), ash building, weighing bridge building, electrical building, unloading building and water treatment building, as well as concrete structures for tanks and bonded areas, transformers, stack, waste wood storage areas, virgin wood storage areas, weigh bridge, etc.

Aqvila’s works included the detailed design of all reinforced concrete sub- and superstructures, including 3D-modelling of the structures and preparation of bar-bending schedules as well as design, manufacture and supply of primary and secondary structural steel, cladding envelope, doors, windows and roller shutters.
